Photos from Egypt Chloe Redmond

Although my photos from Egypt were taken with a digital camera, it was the developing process in the dark room that initially inspired me. After dismally scraping through the academic side of education, I studied for a BTEC National Diploma in Moving Image. At the beginning of 2006 I travelled to Egypt where I took photos during a three month stay. I like to take pictures of things close up for the textures to be focused on. Or for you to be unclear of what the image is, which leads to the individual's freedom for interpretation.

Sharon Drew – work statement "I live at the edge of London's East End where an ever changing and evolving urban environment presses against the ancient woodlands of Epping Forest. This combination is a continuous source of fascination for me – the clash and fusion of the two environments feeding directly into my work. In both places I find the qualities of tension, starkness and vibrancy to which I respond. I enjoy experimenting with paint and often natural and illusory qualities emerge directly out of the process. I have also explored bringing together opposites such as random, organic surfaces with hard-edged controlled forms, intense colour with monochrome and gestural strokes with flat floating forms. I want to continue to investigate this collision or fusion of apparently opposed languages and the challenge is to combine these diverse elements into a coherent whole."

Timothy Kraemer
"I studied fine art at Dartington College of Arts, photography at The London College of Printing and graphic design at Guildford Art School. My eclectic interests led me to be increasingly involved in music and I became a professional cellist which has been my main occupation to this day. I love photographing everything around me, particularly other musicians. As a musician myself, I have had the wonderful opportunity of travelling to many interesting parts of the world. Japan was one of these places. A cultural landscape of extraordinary contrasts, I was drawn to the more contemplative approach to Japanese life. Amongst the quiet temples only an hours train ride from the hectic pace of Tokyo, I came across these archers practicing their art. I was particularly impressed by the way they accepted the presence of a camera, a sign of how focussed they were in their practice." www.timothykraemer.com
