The BBC recently screened a documentary showing how this many thousands of years' old Chinese therapy helps in a variety of conditions including acute and chronic pain. They showed a patient in China having open heart surgery with no anaesthetic, just acupuncture! Some of our own recent successes have included frozen shoulder, arthritis, back pain and migraine – to name but a few. The TeamAt The Health Works we have an international team of acupuncturists (George Askounis, Catherine Aubin, Josephine Cerqua and Vera Gibson-Wong) from Britain, China, Greece, France and Italy, who also practice: Acupressure Auricular Therapy Tui Na Remedial Massage Shiatsu Kanpo Herbal Medicine Buteyko Breathing Method for Asthma.Pregancy/Natural Induction/Fertility We have developed good relationships with midwives who have been sending women here for natural inductions. Conditions treatedSome of the many conditions that are treated with acupuncture are: pelvic pain (common in pregnancy); depression; osteoarthritis in the knee; hay fever, rhinitis, sinusitis; blood pressure problems; migraines; menstrual problems; skin problems…… We offer a FREE 15 minute consultation for anyone wanting to know more about a particular treatment. ( Our team is registered with the British Acupuncture Council. The highest standards of needle hygiene are observed in this clinic with only new needles being used and then disposed of with the strictest methods. ) About AcupunctureAcupuncture is a system of healing which has been practiced in the East for thousands of years. Although often described as a means of pain relief, it is in fact used to treat people with a wide range of illnesses. Its focus is on improving the overall well being of the patient, rather than the isolated treatment of specific symptoms. According to Chinese philosophy, our health is dependent on the body's motivating energy, known as Qi, moving in a smooth and balanced way through a series of channels. Qi consists of equal and opposite qualities, Yin and Yang, and when these become unbalanced, illness may result. The flow of Qi canbe disturbed by a number of factors. These include emotional states such as anxiety, stress, anger, fear or grief, poor nutrition, weather conditions, hereditary factors, infections, poisons and trauma. Auricular TherapyE ating too much? A ddicted to alcohol, tobacco, drugs R esolve these problems with the help of Auricular Therapy . Each part of the body has an AURICULAR (outer ear) point which can be stimulated to:
Auricular Therapy can be used on its own, or to complement or reinforce a body acupuncture treatment. (No needles need be used.) Tui na or Chinese Medical Massage shares the same in-depth theories and diagnostic techniques as Acupuncture (without the needles). It is one of the earliest treatment methods (2700 BC) and has been refined and developed over hundreds of years. Tui Na massage consists of various lifting, stretching, stroking, pushing and grasping massage techniques. This is accompanied by acupressure. There are three levels - superficial, middle and deep used in treatment. The superficial level relates to just below the skin and is effective in treating long-term imbalances and recent injury to disperse fluid and minimise stagnation prompting a faster recovery. The middle level relates to the flesh and muscle. Treatment at this depth is effective for relieving muscle tension. The deep level relates to the sinews (tendons & ligaments) and bones. Treatments at this depth release deep-seated tension and draw energy (Qi) to the area to clear blockages. Treatments are not clearly segmented as different depths and techniques mould into a flowing relaxing and often subtle massage with powerful re-energising properties. Reflexology is a 20th century version of an ancient healing and relaxation technique as old as acupuncture. Like other ancient therapies it utilises the energy that flows along the energy zones of the body. These meridians correspond to all the major organs, glands and body parts. Based on the principle that congestion or tension in any part of the foot or hand mirrors congestion or tension in a related part of the body, a trained reflexologist applies gentle pressure to the feet or hands restoring the free-flow of energy to the whole body. No needles or drugs are used and the method is pleasant, helps to reduce stress and induces deep relaxation. Reflexology suits all age groups and is a gentle, non-invasive therapy. It improves circulation of blood and lymph, cleanses the body of toxins and impurities, revitalises energy, increases vitality and balances the whole system. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
