Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a system of healing which has been practiced in the East for thousands of years. Although often described as a means of pain relief, it is in fact used to treat people with a wide range of illnesses. Its focus is on improving the overall well-being of the patient, rather than the isolated treatment of specific symptoms.

Deep Tissue Massage is a form of therapy that particularly focuses on stiff and knotted muscles in a deeper level of the body. Throughout the treatment the therapist consults the client regarding the pressure level and the areas that need to be worked on.

Reflexology

Reflexology is the name given for the ancient technique of applying pressure through massage to different reflex points on the feet, in order to bring about a state of deep relaxation and relieve stress and anxiety. Each reflex point on the feet is linked to an organ, system, or part of the body, and by applying gentle pressure to those reflex points you can help alleviate symptom patterns and rebalance the body.

Reflexology is often sought by couples trying to concieve, as stress and lack of sleep are factors that can affect fertility. It can also be used for pain relief-for example in the early stages of labour. A number of clinical studies have shown that reflexology decreases the pain intensity within the first, second and third stages of labour and also reduces anxiety symptoms for women giving birth. It is also used to help the body heal during post-operative care, as it can help reduce pain and inflammation.

Reiki

Reiki balances body, mind and emotions as it releases tension and stress, creating a deep relaxation and feeling of well-being. Reiki complements other therapies and no belief is required, only a willingness to receive the Reiki energy is needed to improve health and enhance the quality of life. The therapist places their hands in several positions over the body where Reiki is channeled through the therapist to the recipient. Often a feeling of warmth or tingling is felt. Though extremely powerful, Reiki is safe for anyone – elderly, very young, pregnant, frail or post-surgery. Reiki benefits most ailments as it works in harmony with the body’s ability to heal itself, eg stress, tension, anxiety, depression, headaches, ME, arthritis, menopausal problems, aches and pains, insomnia and sciatica. Chronic ailments also respond well.

Buteyko Method for Asthma

The core of the Buteyko Method is to raise awareness of the way the client is breathing, and to use specific, gentle exercises to retrain the client to breathe appropriately for the level of activity they are doing. They will be trained to always breathe through the nose, and for many people, this in itself feels miraculous after years of mouth breathing. Over time, the exercises permanently retrain the chemo-receptor responsible for breathing rates, and many clients will eventually only need to monitor their breathing every so often. Exercises can be resumed in any stressful period to prevent a return of symptoms.

Craniosacral Therapy

The Team:
Heike Clarke | Charlotte Van Der Byl
Fees:
1st appointment – £60 for 60 minutes
Follow-up – £60 for 60 minutes

Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle yet powerful hands-on therapy. It was developed by osteopaths over 100 years ago.

The client lies fully clothed on the treatment table and the therapist applies a very light and gentle touch to various parts of the body listening for subtle rhythmic motions in the body. When these rhythmic motions get compromised by various things like stress, injuries, accidents, toxicity and emotional problems, it can lead to a wide range of health problems. The therapist encourages a restoration of the rhythmic motions resulting in a return to health and thus supports the body’s ability to heal itself. Layers of stress or trauma may be resolved in a very gentle way.

Who is it for?

CST is probably best known for treating babies because it is so gentle and non-invasive, but it can be beneficial at any age.

Conditions that can respond well include problems associated with trauma and stress, headaches, back and neck pain, sciatica, bone/joint disorders, migraine, menstrual/hormonal disorders, muscular pain, sinusitis, anxiety, depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, digestive issues, insomnia. It can also be used to provide a general support for the everyday challenges of life.

What is a typical session like?

The first session lasts 60 minutes as the therapist will take a case history. Follow-up sessions last between 50 and 60 minutes.

The client lies fully clothed, either on his/her back or side, on a massage table or sits on a chair. The therapist then applies a light touch on various areas of the client’s body. CST is a holistic approach and benefits can happen in mind or body. After a session people mostly feel relaxed, calm and energised, but it’s recommended to allow the body a longer period of rest as the healing process can occur beyond the actual session. It’s often a good idea to drink some water after the session.

Some people may only need one or two sessions, others find a regular treatment over a longer period of time more beneficial. For full benefits a series of treatments are usually recommended. CST is a complementary therapy and clients should always check their symptoms with their GP.
